Shearer remains Newcastle United’s all-time leading goalscorer and one of the most iconic strikers in Premier League history. His powerful finishing, leadership and connection with the Newcastle supporters helped turn him into a club legend.
However, there is an important clarification: as of August 13, 2026, Netflix’s official announcements confirm that Shearer is appearing as one of the hosts of The Rest Is Football, its daily football show covering the 2026 World Cup. Netflix has not officially announced a separate Alan Shearer career documentary with a confirmed premiere date.
That distinction has not stopped excitement among Newcastle supporters, who would undoubtedly welcome a full documentary exploring Shearer’s extraordinary journey—from his early playing days to becoming Newcastle’s record goalscorer and a beloved figure at St James’ Park.
A dedicated Shearer documentary could revisit some of the defining moments of his career, including his goalscoring exploits, England career, Newcastle captaincy and the emotional relationship he developed with the club’s supporters.
Netflix has already demonstrated its growing interest in football documentaries, with productions covering major football personalities and stories. Its recent MOURINHO documentary, for example, launched globally on August 11, 2026.
For now, Newcastle fans should treat claims of an officially announced Alan Shearer career documentary and a specific premiere date as unconfirmed unless Netflix or Shearer makes an official announcement.
