Rangers FC have announced plans for a major redevelopment of their home stadium, Ibrox Stadium, in Glasgow, Scotland. The project aims to transform the historic ground into a modern, world-class sporting and entertainment complex.The stadium, which currently holds about 51,700 spectators, is expected to be expanded significantly to a new capacity of around 70,897 seats. This would make it one of the largest football stadiums in the United Kingdom.
The expansion plan includes not only increasing seating capacity but also upgrading the entire stadium environment. Proposed developments include a luxury multi-storey car park, a fan village with entertainment areas, and a modern event arena that can host concerts and other sporting activities.
In addition, the project outlines the construction of nearby facilities such as hotels to accommodate visitors and tourists, as well as a casino and leisure complex aimed at boosting entertainment and economic activity around the stadium area. The idea is to turn Ibrox into a year-round destination, not just a matchday venue.
The total cost of the project is estimated at around £9.6 billion, making it one of the most ambitious stadium redevelopment plans ever proposed in European football. The club’s vision is to modernize its infrastructure and increase revenue while improving the experience for fans and visitors.
According to reports, the expansion will be carried out in phases so that Rangers can continue playing home matches during construction. This phased approach will help reduce disruption while allowing steady progress on the development.
