The Manly Warringah Sea Eagles have officially released a statement honouring the remarkable legacy of club icon Cliff Lyons, with plans reportedly underway for a stunning bronze statue to be built at the entrance of 4 Pines Park.
The proposed tribute would celebrate one of the greatest players in club history, recognising Lyons’ unforgettable contribution to the Sea Eagles during his legendary career. Widely regarded as one of the most gifted playmakers to ever wear the maroon and white jersey, Lyons played more than 300 games for Manly and helped lead the club to premiership glory in 1987 and 1996.
Club officials described the statue project as a symbol of respect, pride, and appreciation for a player whose influence continues to inspire generations of supporters and young athletes. Fans across the rugby league world have already reacted emotionally to the news, with many calling it a “long overdue honour” for the two-time Dally M Medal winner.
The statue is expected to capture Lyons in his classic match-day pose, wearing the famous Sea Eagles colours that made him a household name throughout Australian rugby league. The entrance of 4 Pines Park already celebrates club history through landmarks such as the Lyons-Menzies Stand, named after both Cliff Lyons and fellow Manly great Steve Menzies.
