LEGEND RETURNS: Alan Curtis Back in First-Team Fold at Swansea City
The atmosphere at the Swansea.com Stadium is “electrified” following the announcement that club icon Alan Curtis has returned to a senior coaching role. Curtis, whose association with the Swans spans over 50 years, has reportedly stepped back onto the training pitch to support head coach Vitor Matos in the final stages of the 2025/26 campaign. Having previously retired from full-time coaching in 2019 to serve as Honorary Club President, this “bombshell” return is seen as a vital psychological boost for a squad currently in a period of significant transition.
Speaking on his decision to return, Curtis explained that his primary goal is to help the team rediscover its traditional footballing identity and push for a higher standing in the Championship. “I’ve seen the growth under Vitor,” Curtis reportedly stated, “and I’m coming back to ensure we take this team to the next level by instilling that ruthless edge and the values that define Swansea City.”
The news follows a series of coaching reshuffles under Vitor Matos, who recently added Andy Mangan as a first-team consultant and has been supported by other club greats like Leon Britton and Joe Allen. Fans have greeted the return of their “favourite son” with immense enthusiasm, especially after Curtis was recently honoured with the Alan Curtis Award at the club’s 2026 Awards Evening for his lifelong service. With the 2026/27 season ticket renewal window currently closing, the timing of Curtis’ return has provided the perfect spark of optimism for the Jack Army.
