The former England captain and boyhood Evertonian was reportedly moved to tears by the recent struggles of the club. In a surprise statement released through his foundation, Rooney has allegedly pledged to personally purchase 5,000 season tickets for lifelong fans who have been priced out of the new stadium.
Speaking to a group of supporters outside the club’s training ground, Rooney said: “Everton gave me everything. The fans are the heart of this city, and it breaks my heart to see empty seats because of price hikes. I’m making sure the blue half of Liverpool stays loud and proud.”
