Nottingham Forest have moved forward with long-term plans to significantly redevelop the historic City Ground, aiming to transform the stadium into one of the largest modern football venues in England. The club’s latest proposals outline a phased expansion that could increase capacity from around 31,000 to more than 52,000 seats once fully completed. The project includes a major rebuild of the Peter Taylor Stand, upgrades to the Trent End, and future expansion of the Brian Clough Stand.Planning documents submitted to local authorities confirm that initial enabling works could begin in 2026, pending final approval. If all phases are completed, the stadium could eventually rank among the biggest outside London. The total cost of the redevelopment has not been officially fixed in one confirmed figure, but reports consistently estimate the project to be in the £130 million+ range, depending on final design and construction phases.Club officials have described the project as part of a long-term vision to modernise the club’s facilities, increase matchday revenue, and strengthen Nottingham Forest’s position in the Premier League. However, the development has also raised concerns that such a large investment could affect short-term spending on players, as the club balances infrastructure growth with squad competitiveness.
