Ipswich moved within one point of promotion back to the Premier League after they triumphed at Coventry, displaying their winning formula in crucial circumstances.

The Tractor Boys prevailed against the FA Cup semi-finalists by barely holding their nerve following a losing streak of just three points from four games.

Haji Wright’s 19th goal of the year cancelled out Kieffer Moore’s first-half goal, but a clumsy Cameron Burgess goal in the 69th minute put Ipswich three points ahead of Leeds United, who are in third place and have a much superior goal differential.

It would only take a draw against struggling Huddersfield on Saturday for Ipswich to return to the top flight in Suffolk for the first time in twenty-two years.

It only took them eight minutes to move forward.

Moore scored with a strong low right-footed shot from ten yards out after Wes Burns exposed the Sky Blues defence down the right.

Coventry was still dedicated and had opportunities to catch up.

Ellis Simms ballooned badly over, Kasey Palmer and Wright were denied at point-blank range, and Ben Sheaf fired a 20-yard shot that was only slightly high and wide.

Just before halftime, Burns gave Coventry another chance, and keeper Brad Collins had to make a fantastic reaction save by stooping low to his right to stop Nathan Broadhead’s downward header. This gave Ipswich a chance to add a second goal.

The game was restarted by Coventry, who had begun the second half slowly, but managed to claw their way back into it when referee James Bell was replaced by Dean Whitestone.

On minute 54, Wright immediately turned to stun the visiting away corner with a low right-foot shot.

However, Burgess’s late header from a deep Leif Davis free-kick put Ipswich ahead again after just five minutes.
