QB Trevor Lawrence met with the media this week for the first time since the season ended, with the Jacksonville Jaguars back at the Miller Electric Centre and formally in the swing of the offseason programme.

Lawrence touched on a number of subjects, including his contract negotiations, his recuperation process, his thoughts on the team’s recent additions, and his assessment of the second half of the season.

However, one well-known subject that came up was whether Lawrence believed Press Taylor, the offensive coordinator, would be calling plays this autumn.

The conversation started when head coach Doug Pederson said, “I have to evaluate myself and Press as decision-makers and play callers and see what’s best for our team,” at the 2024 NFL Combine.

When the question was posed once more at the NFL Owner’s Meetings in Orlando last month, Pederson stated he wasn’t sure yet.

Lawrence is a player, so the choice will obviously have an immediate effect on him. However, he hasn’t discussed the play caller switching with Taylor or Pederson.

“I haven’t had any discussions about things having to change or remain the same,” he stated. “Being with you guys, I’m not really sure.”

Although Taylor called plays in the second half of games in 2022, he started calling plays full-time last season.

Last season, Pederson stated that he gave up those responsibilities in order to focus more on the group and the game. He can now decide more depending on the circumstances.

Last season, the Jaguars had periods of offensive difficulty. However, none of it is ascribed to Taylor’s play calling. The team struggled with injuries, and crucial players’ lack of concentration at crucial times caused momentum to falter.
