After splitting from Goran Ivanisevic earlier this year, Novak Djokovic has revealed some startling information regarding his potential next tennis coach. After working well together for six years, during which time the Croatian coach assisted Djokovic in winning all four major slams, the Serbian player revealed last month that he was ending his relationship with Ivanisevic.

However, Djokovic’s 2024 campaign hasn’t gone as planned; in four tournaments, the 36-year-old hasn’t claimed a championship or advanced to the final, which is practically unheard of for the equal-greatest major winner in tennis history. Djokovic decided to break up with Ivanisevic after losing in the round of 32 at Indian Wells and being defeated in the Australian Open semifinals.

Nenad Zimonjić, the former captain of Serbia’s Davis Cup team, and the Serb have been practicing together. They paired up at the most recent Monte Carlo Masters, when Djokovic was defeated by Casper Ruud in the semifinals. The 36-year-old acknowledged at the 25th Laureus World Sports Awards that he is still debating whether to hire Zimonjić full-time and that he may even choose to train himself in the absence of a mentor.

“I’m thinking about it too, if I should have the coach or not,” Djokovic remarked. We’re debating whether to keep going after the final three weeks, since I had a great time working with Nenad Zimonjić as my coach. I’ll decide within the following term, let’s see.
