Toronto Maple Leafs lost to the Boston Bruins 4-2 in Game 3 of their Eastern Conference First Round series at Scotiabank Arena on Wednesday. Brad Marchand scored two goals and provided an assist, including the game-winning goal at 11:53 of the third period.
Marchand scored from the right face-off dot for the Bruins, taking a pass from Danton Heinen after the latter won the puck behind the net. The shot went past Ilya Samsonov’s glove.
We stayed with it the entire game, Marchand remarked. “It wasn’t always pretty, and like I mentioned the other day, they’re playing extremely physically and coming at us hard, but I felt we improved from our performance in the first few games, and it was fantastic. It was profitable.”
With 36 seconds remaining, Marchand scored an empty-net goal to seal a 4-2 victory.
Boston coach Jim Montgomery stated, “Even though I wasn’t coaching in the NHL, I was watching [Marchand] and Patrice Bergeron and what the Bruins were doing because they’ve always been an elite team. Now I witness it firsthand, but I love watching hockey.” Marchand has consistently reached significant milestones. You’re like, “Wow,” when you see his career playoff points.
Marchand tied Cam Neely for the most postseason goals in Bruins history with his empty-net goal. With 134 points in the postseason, he trails Ray Bourque (161) in team history.
