This weekend, Coventry City FC will play Manchester United in the English FA Cup semifinals. Aside from that, the team works with a few UK institutions to identify future players and set them up for success in their football careers.
Loughborough College and University, Coventry City University, and Brooke House College, England are
the partners of Coventry FC on this project, Johnny Ogbah, an educational agent and sports lawyer based in the UK.According to him, a large number of Nigerians are learning and gaining real-world football experience in the UK.
Ogbah clarified that the project was an attempt to help interested parents and young people balance football and academics.
He also added that the partnership between Brooke House College and Coventry, which includes some of the established universities, offers the best chance for any parent who wants to make sure their child successfully combines sports and education.
“A lot of Nigerians are football fans, and some of them have gifted kids who could play the sport professionally in the near future. Brooke House College is working on this new project with Coventry FC and Loughborough College, the top sports degree awarding institution in the world.”
“While we provide a flexible three-, six-, and nine-month calendar for certain students, there are full degree programs with academic sessions that typically begin in September.
“Our coaches frequently travel to Nigeria to choose gifted young people for UK scholarships.
Ogbah claims that a few former Nigerian junior internationals, such as Success and Habib Makanjuola, have profited in the past from this Brooke House College sports and education initiative.
In order to send gifted athletes abroad to complete their study, he continued, Coventry University is collaborating with other private universities in Nigeria in the field of sports.
“The fees might be high for some people due to the exchange rate, but payment has been broken down into stages to make it easy,” he said.
