This time around, the Seattle Seahawks won’t be edging out for the seventh and final NFC playoff spot.
The Seahawks are no longer in the running for the postseason after the Green Bay Packers defeated the Chicago Bears 17–9 on Sunday afternoon. Seattle’s hopes of making the playoffs were already threatened by a loss to the Packers and a victory over the Arizona Cardinals. However, the Seahawks have nothing left to play for except dignity as they trail their NFC West rivals in the fourth quarter.
The previous season, the Seahawks qualified for the postseason thanks to victories against the Los Angeles Rams in Week 18 and the Packers in Aaron Rodgers’ farewell game against the Detroit Lions. Despite putting up a great fight in the first half, Seattle was defeated by the San Francisco 49ers in the Wild Card round.
The Seahawks will reflect on a few heartbreaking defeats this season that eventually cost them a spot in the postseason. Although Seattle narrowly lost to the Dallas Cowboys, Cincinnati Bengals, and Rams, their most recent setback may have been to the Pittsburgh Steelers last week. Despite having the opportunity to help themselves at home, the Seahawks were unable to thwart Pittsburgh’s rushing threat.
After falling short of expectations this season, Seattle suddenly has a lot of unanswered questions as it enters the offseason.
