The NBA Playoffs are a few days away and the regular season is coming to an end.
The Los Angeles Lakers, who had a mixed second season under head coach Darvin Ham, will need to make it through the Play-In Tournament. LeBron James’ squad seems to be operating at maximum dysfunction just before he takes part in his 17th postseason.
Early in 2023, the Lakers players wanted Darvin Ham fired.
James and his teammates reportedly desired a coaching change to be made relatively early in the season by the front office, according to a report from Hoops Wire.
Earlier in the season, Lakers players demanded that assistant coach Phil Handy take over for Ham. But since she loves Ham, Los Angeles owner Jeanie Buss has never considered removing him from his coaching position. Throughout the season, LeBron has frequently disregarded Ham in huddles and spoken with Handy about what plays the Lakers should play.
Given how awkward James and Ham have been this season while on the sidelines, this shouldn’t come as a huge surprise. James has frequently shown signs of being annoyed or disinterested in what Ham tells the players.
Success is quite tough to achieve when there is a lack of chemistry between the coach and the players; this is a major reason the squad hasn’t won more games under his leadership.
