The major event of Monday night turned out to be Juan Soto, a slugger for the New York Yankees, hitting his first home run in the Bronx. Forget about the total solar eclipse.

In Monday’s postponed game against the Miami Marlins, Soto faced lefty Jesús Luzardo at bat and sent a three-run blast into right field, giving New York a commanding 6-0 lead in the fourth inning.

In a stunning panoramic loop shot by a member of the Yankees camera crew, Soto’s first home run in pinstripes at Yankee Stadium sent fans in the Bronx into a frenzy.

Shortstop Anthony Volpe had already blasted a three-run home ball earlier in the inning, so this was both the Yankees’ and Soto’s second home run of the year.

After that, the Yankees destroyed the Marlins 7–0 to increase their record to 9–2, which is tied for the best 11-game start in team history.

With ten RBIs in his debut season in New York, Soto is slashing.366/.471/.561. On March 30, the three-time All-Star defeated the Houston Astros 5–3 and launched his first Yankees home run. According to The Athletic, Soto is now in the last year of his contract and may be able to fetch a contract starting in the $500 million level when he becomes a free agent.
