NEW DELHI: The International Cricket Council (ICC) came under fire from Cricket West Indies (CWI) CEO Jonny Grave for not giving the board any funding.

According to Grave, there is a concerted effort by the cricket community to stop the game from spreading to the Caribbean. Grave’s comments follow two significant events in West Indies cricket in the past yearWI had a severe blow last year when they were not selected for the ICC Cricket World Cup for the first time ever. In the tournament qualifiers, they lost to the Netherlands, an associate member of the ICC.

In India, where West Indies cricketers are hugely famous because they play in the Indian Premier League (IPL), the side that had previously dominated the World Cup was conspicuously absent. But the West Indies team recovered, defeating the defending ICC T20 World Cup champion England in both the ODI and T20I series.
Another noteworthy event in West Indies cricket history was the performance of 24-year-old bowler Shamar Joseph, who took 7/68 and gave WI its first Test win in 27 years on Australian territory.

Grave seemed to be working against the success of the West Indies while expressing his unhappiness with the idea that “world cricket needs a strong West Indies team” in an appearance on the Wisden Cricket Monthly Podcast. He underlined that in order to aid West Indies cricket in regaining its vitality, the cricket community must provide more financial support.
