The Seattle Seahawks and UW Huskies coaching staff turnovers have finally crossed over, but it may have taken a month. The Hawks have reportedly hired Ryan Grubb, the former offensive coordinator of Washington.
Husky retaliation? The Seahawks of Seattle might sign more of DeBoer’s coaches.
Several NFL insiders revealed the move on Friday night, just after photos of Grubb in a Renton bar with new head coach Mike Macdonald and general manager John Schneider of the Seahawks surfaced on social media. That occurred only a few days after early reports that the Seahawks were interested in Grubb for their open offensive line coach position subsided. Grubb had identified himself as the offensive coordinator of the Crimson Tide, the former head coach of the UW Huskies, at an event in Alabama.
To put it mildly, the turn of events has been rather interesting.
Former UW quarterback and FOX football analyst Brock Huard, host of Seattle Sports, spent a few minutes on Saturday discussing his thoughts on Grubb’s reported return to Seattle, which came one month after it appeared his immediate future lay in Tuscaloosa (watch the video link here). The following is what he said was good, awful, and ugly about Grubb seemingly landing with the Seahawks.
Huard has observed firsthand that Grubb may have a “gruff” attitude during some UW Huskies sessions. Because of this, he may find it difficult to adjust to life in the NFL.
“What will be his approach to mentoring men?” Huard stated. These are not youthful males. The promise of playing time is not a carrot. Just dealing with adult males who have signed contracts and are assured money, as opposed to guys between the ages of 18 and 22, who are battling for their opportunity and chance. That, in my opinion, is where some of the maturity and personality adjustments that come with coaching adults rather than youths at the collegiate level are made.
