After Hamilton won the Ferrari slot, Sainz responded in a mysterious manner.
Following the announcement that he was leaving Ferrari to make room for Lewis Hamilton, Carlos Sainz made hints that he might be planning a return to Formula 1.
Since Hamilton recently inked a new deal, there have been rumours that he may be joining Ferrari and partner Charles Leclerc in 2025. These rumours originally arose on Thursday.
Sainz was engaged in negotiations with Ferrari on his own, but chairman John Elkann—a longtime supporter of Hamilton—moved quickly to acquire the seven-time World Champion, ending Sainz’s four-year tenure with the Scuderia.
Sainz’s future has been uncertain since the two-time race winner is being considered as a potential driver for Audi whenever the company enters and takes over the Stake operation in 2026. The Spaniard has made indications that a future seat may already be under consideration.
In a message shared on social media, Sainz said, “Scuderia Ferrari and I will part ways at the end of 2024 in response to today’s news.”
We still have a long season ahead of us, but as usual, I promise to give the club and the Tifosi anywhere I play my all.
“News about my future will be announced in due course.”
