As this is the first mock draft tracker following the commencement of the 2024 NFL League Year, analysts’ predictions regarding the Jaguars’ probable draft-day trajectory were perhaps not shocking. This is the tenth mock draft tracker on Jaguars.com for 2024.
Which way are the Jaguars most frequently expected to go when they are selected No. 17 overall in the 2024 NFL Draft? Following the “first wave” of free agency that concluded last week, many analysts feel that the team’s most evident “needs” are at wide receiver and cornerback.
This week’s tracker showed that pundits have a special fondness for the Jaguars’ corner, with many players at the position predicted to the team in Round 1.
Quinyon Mitchell from Toledo, Terrion Arnold from Alabama, and Nate Wiggins from Clemson were a few among them. This week, several analysts predicted all of them to the Jaguars.
The Pro Football Network’s Tony Catalina wrote, “The Jags should feel excited about adding an excellent cornerback talent to a group that needs it; Wiggins could end up being the best cornerback in this draft class.” Chris Trapasso of CBS Sports wrote, “Mitchell is long, fast, athletic, and was ridiculously productive in college.”
Analysts praised Arnold as well.
Terrion Arnold is a cornerback prospect who may be the best in the class if the Jaguars are to regain their position as the division’s best team, according to Kyle Stackpole of CBS Sports and Ian Cummings of the Pro Football Network. “[Jaguars defensive coordinator] Ryan Nielsen runs a man-oriented scheme, and there’s no cornerback prospect better equipped to thrive in man coverage than Terrion Arnold,
” Cummings wrote. Arnold’s technical ability already beyond his years, and his ridiculous fluidity and closing surge enable him to strangle wide receivers.”
