According to reports from WDRB’s Eric Crawford and Jeff Goodman, among others, Pat Kelsey, a native of Cincinnati and head coach of the College of Charleston Cougars, has surfaced as a contender for the University of Louisville Cardinals’ opening.

After spending two seasons at Louisville, Kenny Payne was let go last week.

Mick Cronin, the head coach of the Cincinnati Bearcats and a former assistant coach at the University of Louisville, has been touted by many as a possible candidate for the Louisville position.

Jerry Stackhouse’s replacement at Vanderbilt is reportedly considering Kelsey and Chris Mack, who both excelled at St. Xavier High School before going on to play and coach there. This information was revealed by Goodman last week.

In addition to playing and coaching at Xavier, Kelsey attended Roger Bacon and Elder for her high school career. He worked as an associate head coach at XU for three seasons under Mack, the head coach of the Cardinals from 2018 to 2022.

In his three seasons as the head coach at College of Charleston, Kelsey guided the Cougars to an NCAA tournament automatic bid for the second time. On Friday night in Spokane, Washington, No. 4 Alabama will take on No. 13 seed Charleston.
