The Montreal Canadiens started their challenging five-game road trip on Tuesday night with a matchup in Edmonton. Although the Oilers are among the league’s hottest teams, their goaltender isn’t always excellent, so Montreal was hoping to take advantage of that at Rogers Place
Calvin Pickard, the Oilers’ backup, got the win, but not before the Canadiens put up a fantastic fight and lost 3-2 in overtime.
After two somewhat drowsy periods, the Canadiens appeared to have Herb Brooks give a motivational message during the intermission in the third period. The way Montreal turned things around and took the lead in the third was amazing.
They tied it in a flash with two landmark objectives. Nick Suzuki was breaking hard to the net when Juraj Slafkovsky centering the puck into the crease. It entered through his skate. Suzuki set a new career best for a campaign with his 27th goal of the year.
Kaiden Guhle quickly followed, sprinting down the left side to keep score. As a resident of Edmonton, Guhle also considered that to be a major objective. He won the league MVP award in the playoffs and guided the Oil Kings to a WHL championship as he concluded his junior career with them.
A little home-cooked meal for Guhle before the game, some family and friends present, and possibly some cash on the board served as motivators for a child who doesn’t require any to give every game his all. Guhle and Matheson performed admirably in stopping Connor McDavid.
The first line provided the superior analytics, but Suzuki’s line was extremely good once again, even against a fantastic club. In light of the opponents, the 73 share of goals expected is exceptional. Even though Montreal doesn’t have any support scorers, their top three players are producing some really good stuff.
