An All-Star to support in the opening lineup is what the New York Yankees are trying to sign.

The news that 2023 American League Cy Young Award winner Gerrit Cole will miss at least one or two months due to an elbow injury was heartbreaking for New York this past week.

To replace Cole in the rotation, the Yankees have been linked to a number of pitchers, the most well-known of whom is two-time Cy Young Award winner Blake Snell.

Even though this is the case, Snell is a very improbable choice given its exorbitant price. But the Yankees have been searching for another pitcher, and Bob Nightengale of USA Today Sports reports that the organisation is considering one man in particular: former All-Star Michael Lorenzen.

“The Yankees have not re-engaged in talks for Snell, and instead have expressed interest in signing free-agent starter Michael Lorenzen,” Nightengale stated.

Lorenzen played for the Philadelphia Phillies and Detroit Tigers in 2023, when he had a successful season. He was promoted from the bullpen to the starting rotation in 2022, and the previous season he was selected for his first All-Star team.

Before being dealt to Philadelphia, he had a 3.58 ERA in 18 starts during his excellent start to the season with the Tigers. Despite pitching a no-hitter, Lorenzen had a 5.51 ERA in his 11 appearances overall.

In the rotation, New York could use some assistance, and Lorenzen is still available and could be grabbed for a reasonable price. Give him a chance before someone else does, please.
