Former Lakewood Ranch resident Drew Bavaro signs a one-year contract with the Boston Bruins
A professional hockey player is named Drew Bavaro.
On Tuesday, the former Lakewood Ranch resident agreed to an entry-level one-year contract with the Boston Bruins. Bavaro has never had a professional contract before.
Bavaro, who was reared in Lakewood Ranch and was born in Bradenton, will spend the rest of the season as an amateur trial for the American Hockey League’s Providence Bruins.
The 6-foot-3, 202-pound right-shot defenceman played in 35 games for Notre Dame during the previous campaign. He led the Fighting Irish defense in goals scored with ten, and he also had ten assists.
He participated in 37 games for Notre Dame in 2022–2023 and finished with six goals, 13 assists, and 19 points.
In his two seasons there, from 2020 to 22, Bavaro scored 11 goals and provided 28 assists for a total of 39 points in 52 games.
In 51 games with the Wenatchee Wild in the British Columbia Hockey League in 2019–20, Bavaro—the son of the boys soccer coach at Lakewood Ranch High School—scored nine goals and dished out 24 assists for 33 points.
The Bruins will have to pay $867,500 in cap hits as part of his contract.
