The Chicago Bears are hoping that a Justin Fields deal will be finalized by the start of NFL Free Agency on Monday, which coincides with the legal tampering period.

The Bears are still expected to draft Caleb Williams of USC with the first overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. Fields’ trade would be the last piece of evidence supporting this plan.
In an ideal scenario, the Bears would have preferred to have closed a deal by now, but the market hasn’t behaved as the organization had anticipated.

Fields’ trade with the Bears is urgently needed, according to the most recent report from ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

There is a certain group of Bears supporters who, upon reading Schefter’s final statement, will proudly declare that Fields will continue to start for the Bears at quarterback.

But regrettably, that is untrue. The Bears need to make it clear that they are okay with the quarterback staying with the team until they can successfully trade for Fields. With every day that goes by, the Bears’ leverage in a Fields trade diminishes; the Schefter report is more likely a desperate attempt by the organization to obtain the best deals for their soon-to-be former starting quarterback.
