Prior to the start of spring practice, Ohio State offensive lineman Josh Fryar, cornerback Davison Igbinosun, and linebacker Sonny Styles were all recognised with an Iron Buckeye Award for their exceptional work. According to Mariotti, an Iron Buckeye exhibits “unquestionable training, dedication, determination, discipline, toughness, and leadership.”

The three Buckeyes stated above are playing for more than just winning with their team, so receiving that distinction means much more to them.

Fryar, an experienced player, is trying to secure a spot in Ohio State’s starting lineup for a more season. Several slots on the Buckeyes O-line are available due to the departures of fellow linemen Matthew Jones (to the 2024 NFL Draft), Jakob James (to the Toledo Rockets), and others.

Igbinosun will soon start his second season both collegiately and with the Buckeyes. Ohio State added multiple defensive backs this season, including Alabama transfer safety Caleb Downs, with whom he will have to contend for a key spot on the squad.

Lastly, after Ohio State’s defeat against Missouri in the 2024 Cotton Bowl back in December 2023, Sonny Styles has been switching from safety to linebacker. Styles has had to put in extra effort to prove that he can perform at any level the coaching staff asks of him and to get used to his new role.

Styles, Igbinosun, and Fryar are ready.
