The Vikings’ chances of winning this round of the Kirk Cousins sweepstakes are beginning to dim.
According to a recent report by Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk, “indications are building of potential Kirk Cousins move to Atlanta.”
Despite his inability to “get into the specifics, for now,” Florio claims to have heard “very credible indications” that Cousins is “seriously considering moving his family to Atlanta.”
that would be a blatant sign that, following six years in Minnesota, Cousins has decided to join the Atlanta Falcons. Beginning on March 13, Cousins’ contract will expire, forcing the Vikings to absorb a $28 million dead cap hit.
The Vikings are still holding out hope that they can persuade Cousins to sign a new contract. At the combine last week, head coach Kevin O’Connell expressed his desire for the seasoned quarterback to return, but he also acknowledged that he has “earned the right to be a free agent.”
The “Pat McAfee Show” on Monday heard ESPN’s Adam Schefter report that Cousins’ “primary suitors” for the offseason are Minnesota and Atlanta.
When Cousins tore his Achilles tendon in 2023, he was in the middle of a career year.
According to Matthew Coller of Purple Insider, “It makes so much sense for Kirk to view Atlanta as a top destination,” Bring Me The Sports was told. “They’ve been assembling their squad for years in order to be competitive, and they just need the final quarterback. The addition of an OC with a comparable setup stokes the fire even more.”
The Falcons hired Raheem Morris, a former Rams defensive coordinator, as their new head coach after parting ways with head coach Arthur Smith. Morris appointed Zac Robinson, the coordinator of the Rams passing game, as Atlanta’s new offensive coordinator. Robinson and O’Connell, who were both under Rams head coach Sean McVay, have similar offensive philosophies.
