INDIA — When it comes to projecting a Browns offense without running back Nick Chubb in 2024, armchair general managers seem to be off base.

Chubb, who is in the last year of a three-year contract with Cleveland, will have a salary cap hit of more than $15 million the following season due to his base salary of $11.8 million. That’s a lot of money for an NFL running back, especially one who is currently recovering from multiple ligament replacement surgery, which ended his season.

Regarding Chubb’s rehabilitation, Browns general manager Andrew Berry stated, “Yeah, he’s done a great job.” “You guys are aware of Nick’s incredible work ethic. He exerts every effort to ensure that he can recuperate as soon as feasible. It’s still quite early.

Berry, who expressed last month that he didn’t want to see the team’s top rusher leave due to a season-ending injury, now feels that Chubb has a future in Cleveland. Chubb’s season with Pittsburgh ended in September, and he needed multiple surgeries to fully restore his left knee’s meniscus, medial capsule, MCL, and ACL.

The Browns would save $11.83 million if they released Chubb, 28, but they might save even more money with a restructure full of incentives. However, that can only happen if Chubb accepts the revised agreement.

In 2023, he gained 170 yards on 28 carries. The four-time Pro Bowl selection has reached a career-high 1,525 rushing yards in 2022 after surpassing 1,000 yards in each of the previous four seasons. Chubb started his run of 1,000-yard seasons in 2018 with 996 yards as a rookie.

To find a compromise, a meeting is arranged with Chubb’s representatives. However, Berry was unwilling to wager on the Browns completing a restructured contract.

“I am aware that Nick is a hot topic of conversation. At the end of the season, I meant what I said about him,” Berry remarked. “Really, whatever discussions we have with him or his representatives will remain private. Should the status change in any way, you guys would
