Edmonton With 26 seconds left in overtime, Connor McDavid gave the Edmonton Oilers a 3-2 victory over the St. Louis Blues at Rogers Place on Wednesday.
Along with his two assists, McDavid skated across the neutral zone and into the lower left circle before scoring with a shot that deflected off Jordan Binnington’s left shoulder and swooped into the goal.
McDavid remarked, “[Mattias Ekholm] and I were both pretty tired.” “He was just trying to get off the ice, so I felt bad for him and kept giving it back to him.”
“I tried to give it one last shot after he kind of handed it to me there.” That play didn’t involve much; all I did was try to get it in the net in any way, and happily it did.
It was McDavid’s first goal in eleven games since February 6. Additionally, he continued his point streak (one goal, 22 assists) to nine games.
Kris Knoblauch, the coach of the Oilers, stated, “The timing was excellent.” “During that period, he has been doing everything but scoring, appearing on the score sheet twice or three times virtually every night.
“And what an incredible goal he scored in overtime.”
Zach Hyman led the Oilers (35-20-2) in scoring with two goals, including his 40th of the year, while Ryan Nugent-Hopkins had two assists as they won the last two games of a five-game homestand (2-2-1). Stuart Skinner preserved thirty-two.
“It’s true that I play with the best player in the world, so I consider myself extremely fortunate,” Hyman remarked. “Obviously, getting to play alongside Connor was a major factor in my decision to come here.
“You (the media) guys are on him for not scoring, but it’s because he’s making those plays, and I’m the beneficiary,” I said, continuing to try to get open. He is a player throughout generations.
