WBAY, Green Bay, Wisconsin Following the announcement of Cherry Starr’s death earlier that day, Green Bay Packers fans were deeply affected by her loss on Tuesday night.
For those who have supported the Green Bay Packers for many years—dating back to the days when her husband Bart Starr was a player—it is incredibly depressing.
A few people were interviewed by Action 2 News inside the Lambeau Field Atrium. Despite her anonymity, everyone was complimentary about her dedication to the team, the community, and her general kindness.
Undoubtedly, Cherry Starr leaves behind a legacy that is sure to endure.
“When someone dies, it’s a sad day because, you know, she probably had a big impact on Bart Starr.” It’s a sad day for the Packers, according to Sturgeon Bay supporter Roy Ames. “He was a classic gentleman, and I’m sure his wife was equally graceful and generous as Bart was,” Ames said.
Although I didn’t know her well, I do recall seeing her on TV talking with Bart. “I’ve been a fan since the mid-1960s,” added Tony Eckert.
Cherry Starr may not have been as well-known to younger fans, but older fans undoubtedly knew her well. Tonight, that age group is the one who is most affected by this enormous loss.
