Many members of the San Francisco 49ers organisation have expressed unhappiness of the field conditions at their practice site at UNLV, sources told ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
Although the NFL normally requires Super Bowl practice grounds to satisfy specific requirements in December, sources told Schefter that the NFL installed a sod field on top of field grass and began installing it as recently as last week.
Every pitch in the NFL has a hardness score of at least 70, with an average of 78. Schefter was informed by sources that the 49ers field is ranked in the 50s.
There are twenty-three specialists present. The union was present. During his Monday Super Bowl press conference, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell stated, “Everyone believes it’s a very playable surface.” It’s softer than the material they practiced with, but that’s inevitable. It satisfies every one of our testing requirements. We believe that every one of our specialists and the impartial field inspectors has agreed that the field is playable.”
This week, the Kansas City Chiefs are working out at the Las Vegas Raiders’ training complex.
Before every Super Bowl, the league and the NFL Players Association examine the playing fields, and this week’s use of each venue has been approved.
The playing surface—more specifically, the slick course that caused the Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles to struggle to gain stability during the game—was a plot point for the Super Bowl held in Glendale, Arizona, last year.
