Edmonton – The Minnesota Wild defeated the Edmonton Oilers 4-2 on Friday thanks in large part to two goals from Matt Boldy.

For the Wild (27-24-6), who have won six of their last eight games, Jonas Brodin and Mats Zuccarello also scored.

The Oilers (33-18-2), who have lost two straight but are still 28-7-1 in their previous 36 games, answered with goals from Leon Draisaitl and Zach Hyman.

Edmonton truly had a 43-19 advantage in shots during the contest.

Joel Eriksson Ek’s snipe looked to have given the Wild a 1-0 lead approximately seven minutes into the first half, but a video review soon determined that the goal was offside, negating the score.

With just 23 seconds remaining in the first, Boldy cut into the middle and scored Minnesota’s first goal of the game with a wrist shot that tipped over Oilers goalie Calvin Pickard’s glove and in for his 21st of the year. With an assist, Eriksson Ek’s run of consecutive points reached seven games.

Midway through the second period, Edmonton tied the score with a power-play goal from Connor McDavid.

McDavid tied his personal best point streak from the previous year by extending it to 21 games at home.

Six minutes later, Mattias Ekholm flipped a puck from behind the goal line that crept by Gustavsson and sat in the Oilers’ crease, but Declan Chisholm prevented it from going in himself by putting it into his pads.

At 9:31 of the third period, Brodin, playing from the point, sent a shot past Pickard for his fifth of the year to give the Wild the lead again. With a helper, Kirill Kaprizov increased his run of scoring to seven games.

At 12:17 of the third period, Minnesota had a two-goal lead after Edmonton gave up the puck and Boldy scored his second goal of the match with some skillful handling.

Edmonton responded with a power play goal of their own.
