CNN) — Steve Kerr will reportedly receive the highest annual salary of any NBA coach in history thanks to the Golden State Warriors.
Kerr’s agents, Rick Smith and Dan Eveloff of Priority Sports, have reportedly agreed to a record-breaking two-year, $35 million contract extension with the Warriors, as reported by ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski on Friday.
Gregg Popovich, the head coach of the San Antonio Spurs, is paid more annually, but he also holds the position of president of the team, according to ESPN.
The four-time NBA champion coach’s contract was scheduled to end following the 2023–24 campaign. Kerr’s new contract is in line with that of superstar guard Steph Curry. After this season, the two-time NBA MVP will have two more years left.
The Warriors and Kerr’s representatives, who shared Wojnarowski’s reporting on X, have been contacted by CNN for comments.
Ten seasons into his tenure with the team, the 58-year-old has amassed a 502-264 regular season record and a 99-41 postseason record.
Golden State’s six Western Conference championships and league record of 73 regular-season victories are the results of the 2015–16 Coach of the Year winner.
The Warriors (29-26) defeated the Charlotte Hornets (14-42) 97-84 at home on Friday night, their eighth victory in their previous nine games.
