Everyone in town, whether they are supporters of football, soccer, or both, agreed that St. Louis’s two newest clubs are igniting a vibrant downtown. ST. LOUIS—For the love of sports, thousands of people flocked to downtown St. Louis on Saturday.
Fans of St. Louis City SC and the St. Louis Battlehawks reported that their home games generated a unique energy throughout the city.
A packed downtown St. Louis saw sports fans converge on The Dome at America’s Center and CityPark for a double feature.One of the many people tailgating before the Battlehawks game was Jeff Mack.
“This place is only now beginning to come alive again. With the Rams going and everything, we were very hard on ourselves for a time. It feels like we’re back now, he remarked.
James Hohmeier II and other Battlehawks supporters arrived as early as 7 a.m. for the 6 p.m. kickoff versus the DC Defenders. Football is a St. Louis sport. Hopefully everyone present can attest to that. Really, I adore it. We are happy that the Battlehawks are returning; we have been waiting for them. We’ll be here every weekend, just like we were the previous one. “St. Louis is a sports and football town,” he remarked.
After the team’s victory and record-breaking performance in their home opener against the Arlington Renegades last week, many, including Mack, returned for round two.”I was at the Rams vs. Vikings game, and the noise level was virtually exactly the same as it was during the opening playoff game. Man, it was very incredible. It was exactly as noisy at a Chiefs game I attended in Kansas City as it was in Arrowhead. It was fantastic,” he remarked.
Danny Frye has been waiting a long time for his city to field a soccer team.
“Over the past ten to fifteen years, I have been an avid fan of soccer. Ever since the idea of MLS being in the city was first imagined, I’ve been anticipating it. It’s amazing,” he exclaimed.Like many others, Frye expressed that downtown St. Louis is experiencing a surge of enthusiasm from both the Battlehawks and St. Louis City SC.
This city is in a frenzy. The entire city exudes an energy that you can feel. It’s amazing. St. Louis sports is unmatched and unbeatable,” he remarked.
Sue Hornburg was among the many City SC supporters that crowded the Pitch Athletic Club and Tavern in advance of the team’s game versus San Jose.
“Delicious food, friendly people, and our town, our team.” It simply defies explanation. Everyone goes berserk and becomes raucous. They sing,” she remarked.Ryan Derr predicted that the craziness would only intensify as this sports town prepares for more.
“There’s a lot, especially now that Opening Day is approaching, especially this time of year. This entire march has been thrilling, since it’s like everything packed into one month,” he remarked.
Supporter Andrew Whipple stated that St. Louis will always support its teams, win or lose.
“We adore people and sports alike. Anywhere you go, the time is enjoyable. We adore everything so much, even if it only visits us once a year “, he exclaimed.
