Tony Stubblefield of DePaul, not Kenny Payne of Louisville, was the first Power-6 head basketball coach fired this season. One day after the Blue Demons’ 14-point defeat at Butler, which dropped them to a 3-15 overall record and 0-5 in Big East play, Stubblefield was fired on Monday.
Athletic director DeWayne Peevy will appoint Matt Brady as temporary coach while Stubblefield’s replacement is sought out.During his 2.5 years in Chicago, Stubblefield went 28-54 (34.1%). Now that DePaul is trying to revive this program in one of the nation’s most difficult college basketball leagues, a thorough search will be conducted.
