Odds for the former Auburn quarterback to win the Heisman Trophy
Could the Heisman Trophy go to this former Auburn quarterback
The quarterback position is one that the Auburn Tigers should be watching in 2024.
Hugh Freeze can start the Tigers with a variety of options, both young and veteran, as they try to improve their record from 6-7.
Although Coach Freeze has a wealth of choices, including veteran Holden Geriner and the young players Walker White and Hank Brown, Payton Throne will probably start for Auburn. One quarterback from Auburn was lost to the transfer portal; he later relocated to the SEC.
In order to complete his collegiate football career, Robby Ashford made the decision to relocate from Auburn to South Carolina. Ashford is on his third stop; he played at Oregon before returning to his native Alabama to play for Auburn. Ashford has a great chance of winning the starting position at South Carolina, where he will contend for it. FanDuel Sportsbook has released the Heisman Trophy Odds, giving Ashford +30,000 to win college football’s most coveted prize. Thorne, the quarterback for Auburn, had +25,000 odds to win the honour, exactly ahead of Ashford.
Regarding the former Auburn quarterback, Craig Meyer of USA Today stated, “Ashford’s arrival in Columbia will come at an opportune time.” After Spencer Rattler, the starting quarterback for the previous two seasons, announced he was entering the NFL Draft following an inconsistent two seasons with the Gamecocks, South Carolina went into the offseason in search of a new quarterback. Ashford gives South Carolina a seasoned player with SEC experience who can at least challenge for the starting job at what may be the most crucial position on the field.”
Although Ashford is a talented football player, in his first year under Coach Freeze, he was unable to secure a starting position. It will be interesting to see what kind of numbers he puts up for the Gamecocks if he is hired by Columbia.
