Cadillac Williams has moved on for the Auburn Tigers.

Williams, the Tigers’ coach of running backs, has left the post, Auburn University announced in a statement.

Williams stated, “I have decided to resign from my position with Auburn football in order to pursue other opportunities after taking some time to pray and think.” I have the utmost affection for Auburn, the players, and the AU community, but my wife, my sons, and I must make this choice. I owe a huge debt of gratitude to Coaches Malzahn and Freeze for granting me the opportunity to coach. On the Plains, these last five years have been extraordinary. Auburn holds a particular place in my heart and will always be so. Eagle of War!”

Williams served as Auburn’s running backs coach only from 2019 to 2022 before being elevated to associate coach in addition to that position prior to 2023. After Bryan Harsin was fired by the Tigers in October 2022, he served as the team’s temporary head coach for four games. It was a 2-2 stretch for him.

Hugh Freeze, the head coach of Auburn, also offered his thoughts on Williams’ exit.

“Carnell’s contributions to the Auburn football program during his tenure as a coach are greatly appreciated,” Freeze stated. He is among the all-time greats of the program and guided Auburn through a period of change. I appreciate his decision and wish him nothing but the best, even though I know this wasn’t an easy one for him.

Williams is one of the best running backs in program history, so Tiger fans liked him even before he was the interim head coach. But after his four games, they fell in love with him even more. He was employed by Hugh Freeze after Freeze’s employment in November 2022.

Following Philip Montgomery’s dismissal as offensive coordinator last week, Williams has announced his resignation.

Hugh Freeze, the coach, stated in a statement last week, “I informed Philip today he would not be retained as our offensive coordinator.” “Philip is a decent man and coach.” These kinds of choices are never simple, but I believe that this is best for the future of our program. I’m grateful for all of his hard work over the previous year and send him my best wishes.

There are currently no established prospects to take over as running backs coach from Williams.
