Georgia football spent around $758,000 more on recruiting than it did on previous records, according to the NCAA financial report for the fiscal year 2023.
Expenses increased from over $4.5 million in the previous fiscal year to approximately $5.3 million for the July 1, 2022, through June 30, 2023 period. The only other schools to disclose spending more than $3 million in a single year on recruiting are Texas A&M ($4.0 million) and Clemson ($3.5 million). Both of those also appeared in the 2023 fiscal year. Moreover, Clemson spent $3.2 million in the 2022 fiscal year.
According to the most recent estimates, Georgia spent $1.2 million more than the combined spending of Big Ten teams Michigan ($2.4 million) and Ohio State ($1.6 million).Georgia’s operational expenses came to $186.6 million, while its overall operating revenue reached a record $210.1 million. While spending increased by $17.6 million over the previous fiscal year, revenue increased by $7.1 million.
The operational surplus of $23.5 million is the lowest since 2016 and is down $10.5 million. Georgia claims it would have a deficit for the year if the approximately $22 million in capital project costs and the $4.5 million athletics department contributes to the university were taken into account.
