Former bills from M&M’s Super Bowl “Almost Champions” commercialThe Buffalo Bills won’t be playing in the Super Bowl, but that doesn’t mean they won’t appear.
Two Hall of Famers and former Bills will grace your television. Having a reputation for losing is no fun.
If you have a reputation for almost winning, this can hurt you more.
The Buffalo Bills, still recovering from the pain of their Divisional Round loss to the Kansas City Chiefs, will watch the Super Bowl from the sidelines as Patrick Mahomes returns as the starting quarterback for the fourth time in six seasons.
Buffalo’s disastrous end to a season that teetered between cursed and magical shaped the fate of another Bills team, led by a superstar quarterback, who wasn’t quite enough.
On Sunday, this reputation will be further strengthened.M&M’s will air a Super Bowl commercial featuring an “Almost Champions” diamond ring that will be awarded to those who barely make it.
The ad features three NFL Hall of Famers and two former Bills: edge rusher Bruce Smith, receiver Terrell Owens and Miami by Dolphins quarterback Dan Marino.
Smith, of course, appeared in four Super Bowls with Buffalo, although he would finish his historic career without a championship.
He spent 15 years with the Bills and compiled 171 of his 200 career sacks. He was named to 11 Pro Bowls.Owens is now one of the best to ever hold the position.
He led the league in touchdowns in three different seasons.
He only appeared in one Super Bowl – the Philadelphia Eagles’ loss to the New England Patriots in 2005 – but he is remembered for the horrific leg injury he suffered during of his attempt to become champion.
He would spend just one season in Buffalo, long after that Super Bowl loss. His 2009 season with the Bills produced just six wins, though he still managed 55 receptions for 829 yards and five scores at age 36.
It’s up to you whether Buffalo quarterback Josh Allen qualifies as a “near champion” due to his devastating playoff losses; but for now he has gone the furthest in the AFC Championship game.
If fans are lucky, Allen will make an appearance at the Super Bowl with a Paramount commercial that will live up to the expectations of the big game.
