Ramon Henderson, a former Notre Dame safety, was recruited via the transfer portal with little media attention. When UCLA confirmed on Wednesday that Henderson had transferred into its programme, it came to an official end.
Henderson played five seasons at Notre Dame before losing his eligibility. In May, he received his bachelor’s degree in arts from the College of Arts and Letters at the institution.
In 2023, Henderson, a 6-foot-1, 196-pound player, participated in every one of Notre Dame’s 12 regular season games. In all, he racked up 14 tackles, one interception, three pass breakups, one forced fumble, and two fumble recoveries—one of which resulted in a touchdown when Pittsburgh mishandled a punt.
This offseason, Henderson is the second former football player from Notre Dame to join the Bruins. Rico Flores Jr., a rookie wide receiver, took the same action.
Due to his desire for more playing time, the three-star prospect eventually chose UMass, where the 6-2, 186-pound junior cornerback will be eligible for two seasons.
Of the 14 scholarship transfers at Notre Dame, only three remain: offensive lineman Michael Carmody, safety Ramon Henderson and Antonio Carter II, and tight end Ramon Henderson.
Barnes’ first college-level stat will be his first tackle, interception, or pass breakup against the Minutemen. During his three years at Notre Dame, he appeared in just seven games, four of which were as a freshman.
In 2023, former Irish cornerbacks Noah Boykin and Isaiah Rutherford were both on the UMass (3-9) squad; Boykin used up all of his eligibility following the season.
