Andy Reid and John Harbaugh have attended numerous conference championship games together.

It will be the first AFC championship game in a long time, but it will be a little different on Sunday. When the No. 1 Baltimore Ravens play the No. 3 Kansas City Chiefs, they can stare across the field at each other rather than patrolling the same sideline

Reid, who has been the head coach of the Chiefs since 2013, attended five NFC title games while playing for the Philadelphia Eagles (1999–2012). Before joining the Ravens as head coach in 2008, Harbaugh worked under Reid as a special teams coordinator for eight seasons and then as defensive backs coach in 2007. Coached four consecutive championship games.

In terms of the connection, of course, it’s a major deal, Harbaugh stated on Monday. It has a very lengthy history. Deepest regard for Andy and gratitude for all that he has accomplished as a coach. We participated in numerous playoff and championship games. I gained a great deal of knowledge. As a person and as a coach, I have really learned so much.

The oldest head coach still in the NFL is Reid, 65. Second is Harbaugh, who is 61. They are still the best of friends and the leaders in their field.

Regarding his protégé, Reid remarked, “He knows the whole game.” “He’s been an excellent head coach as well as a fantastic secondary and special teams coach. Extremely pleased with everything he has accomplished.

In Philadelphia, there was a 3×5 index card on a bulletin board behind Reid’s desk.

“Don’t judge,” it stated,” Harbaugh remarked.

Harbaugh finally plucked up the nerve to question Reid about the card. In essence, Reid retorted, it was a biblical precept.

“Meet individuals where they are. Hope for the best. Make an effort to speak with everyone on an equal footing. I always remember that,” remarked Harbaugh.

He added that Harbaugh was still learning and was still young. When Reid assumed leadership in Philadelphia, he was not required to have him on staff. It was commendable of him, Harbaugh remarked. “I hope that, in retrospect, he is happy that he did.”

Knowing Jack Harbaugh, the father of Harbaugh, was helpful to Reid.

Reid told reporters on Wednesday that his father was the greatest.

Reid and Jack Harbaugh first connected through Reid’s former college coach, LaVell Edwards of BYU, who Reid played for and then coached.

Reid remarked, “When I first met John, I thought, ‘Man, if you’re half as good as your dad, you’re on.'” Therefore, it didn’t take long.

In their five attempts at winning the NFC title, the Eagles only prevailed once under Reid.
