Zach Wilson Still Believes He Can Be a Starting NFL QB After Signing Dolphins Contract
Miami, FL – Former New York Jets quarterback Zach Wilson has a new home after signing a contract with the Miami Dolphins, but he isn’t settling for a backup role just yet. Despite his struggles in New York, Wilson remains confident that he can be a starting quarterback in the NFL.
Speaking to reporters after inking his deal with Miami, Wilson made it clear that he still sees himself as a legitimate starter.
“I know what I’m capable of,” Wilson said. “Things didn’t go the way I wanted in New York, but I’ve learned, I’ve grown, and I’m ready for this next opportunity. My goal is to compete, improve, and prove that I belong as a starter in this league.”
Wilson’s tenure with the Jets was filled with ups and downs, as he struggled with consistency, decision-making, and injuries. After being drafted No. 2 overall in 2021, he was expected to be the future of the franchise, but a series of poor performances led the team to move on.
Now, he joins a Dolphins team led by Tua Tagovailoa, meaning Wilson will likely begin the season as a backup. However, with Tagovailoa’s injury history, the Dolphins could see Wilson as a valuable insurance policy.
Miami head coach Mike McDaniel spoke highly of Wilson’s potential, stating, “Zach has talent, no doubt about it. We’re excited to work with him and see how he fits in our system.”
Wilson’s signing may not have generated much buzz, but he remains determined to rewrite his NFL story. Whether he’ll get another shot as a starter remains to be seen, but for now, he’s embracing the challenge in Miami.
