It was a tight one all the way to the end but also a familiar result, as the Detroit Lions traveled to Kansas City to beat the Super Bowl-winning Chiefs 24 to 23 with a late field goal and stun the Arrowhead Stadium faithful in the second week of the NFL preseason.

This can be taken with no surprise as the Dan Campbell’s Lions dis something similar like this last year. The team led by Patrick Mahomes suffered a barrage of offensive errors and a lack of confidence that led to a tough defeat by a score of 21-20 at the hands of Jared Goff and company to start the 2023 regular season.

While these teams are under different circumstances, the matter is that Andy Reid is having a hard time beating a Lions team that little by little has become a serious contender in the NFL, whether is the regular season or the preseason.

The Chiefs took a quick 13 to 0 lead in the first quarter thanks to a 39-yard pass by Mahomes that set up a field goal and after another one kicked, Carson Wentz threw a touchdown pass.

The Lions came roaring back to score 12 points but that included a missed extra point by Jacob Bates, even though he has a couple of field goals as well. The game was still tight in the in the third and all the way to the late portion of the fourth quarter.

The Lions were driving when they were down 23-21 with less than a minute left in the game and they set up to try and kick a game-winning field goal to give Jacob Bates another chance. With two seconds left, the kicker did not miss, and he gave a walk-off victory to the Lions.
