Martin Truex Jr., at 44, has announced he will retire from full-time competitive racing after the 2024 NASCAR season, leaving behind a stellar record with Joe Gibbs Racing and an indelible mark on the circuit. Truex, a veteran with 34 career wins and the 2017 NASCAR Cup Series champion under his belt, is not stepping away from racing entirely but instead moving towards a different type of league in the sport he loves.
His announcement of retirement last month marked the end of an era for a driver who has been a formidable competitor in NASCAR’s elite ranks, currently ranked fifth in the points standings. His seat in the No. 19 car will be taken over by Chase Briscoe, as confirmed by Joe Gibbs Racing last week, signaling a new chapter for the team as well as the driver
Despite stepping back from full-time racing, Truex expressed his intentions to keep one hand on the wheel. One of the highlight revelations from his discussion on the Dale Jr. Download Podcast (below) was his interest in running the Daytona 500 in 2025. He hinted strongly at this, although nothing has yet been confirmed.
“It’s almost a guarantee that I feel like right now that I’ll probably run the Daytona 500, which is not a done deal yet but I feel like it shouldn’t be too hard to finish that up,” Truex shared.
