Imagine the scene at the home of the Slovenian cycling power couple. Two-time Tour de France winner Tadej Pogačar and his finance Urška Žigart both won their respective national individual time trial championships. Now things get complicated.
Who gets to put their trophy where? Is the cycling hardware going over the fireplace mantle? Is there room for only one and the other person has to stick theirs in the bedroom? Is this a case of equal placement — will there need to be an objective third party to iron out the details? Will they share the special overhead lighting that puts the spotlight on their achievements?
This could potentially be a challenge for Tadej and Urška to work out. Perhaps this is a time share issue. One person gets all the glory and the placement of their choice for three months, then the other gets to do the same. That’s marriage, right?
We don’t know the size of their apartment in Monaco. With them both winning hardware, we’d hate to think that one trophy would end up on the balcony because of tight quarters. Or worse, in a cardboard box in the corner of the closet.
And this doesn’t even answer the decorating question. Perhaps Urška prefers a clean, simple look and while undeniably proud of her sporting accomplishment — and that of Tadej — she’d prefer not to show off with a trophy on display.
What sports-obsessed guy hasn’t experienced that rude awakening? You move in with the love of your life but she’s not happy about your Kevin Durant autographed basketball on display in the living-room. She’s trying to create a home, not a sports museum.
Perhaps their place is already crowded with cycling trophies. Will they need a pro cycling version of decluttering expert Maria Kondo? She can help them sort thru all the hardware and only keep what really resonates — out with the medals from silly junior races but keep the Tour de France stuff.
It’s just another unique situation for this high-powered cycling couple. What to do with all the race memorabilia.
