Kaizer Chiefs are sniffing around a Bafana Bafana defender currently plying his trade in Europe.

Amakhosi are slowly assembling a formidable team for their new coach, Nasreddine Nabi, who is currently in charge.

The commencement of player signings only occurred following the appointment of the Tunisian coach. This was a result of a mutual agreement that granted the coach the authority to have a final say in the player acquisitions.

The Phefeni Glamour Boys are said to be interested in Thibang Phete, according to iDiski Times.

The 30-year-old centre-back, Phete is currently in the books of GD Chaves in the second-tier of Portugal. He has been with the side since the beginning of the season after parting ways with UAE Pro League outfit Al-Bataeh SC.

In the previous campaign, the product of Stars of Africa academy only played nine games for the Portuguese club, missing several matches due to injury.

Chiefs are hoping they can leverage his experience with the defender having been in Europe since 2014 after moving from Milano United.

Afrik-Foot understands that Kaizer Chiefs are looking to solidify their defence after the new coach, Nasreddine Nabi identified it as a critical area for improvement.

In their centre-back contingent, Chiefs have Sphiwe Msimango, Thatayaone Ditlhokwe, Edmilson Dove, Zitha Kwinika, Eden McCarthy and the recently signed Rushwini Dortley from Cape Town Spurs.

The Soweto giants have also signed Bongani Sam (left-back) and Fiacre Ntwari (goalkeeper).
