The DHL Stormers are bracing themselves for the departure of their dynamic backrower, Hacjivah Dayimani, as reports suggest he’s in the advanced stages of negotiations for a move to Top 14 club Racing 92.
The 26-year-old South African seems poised to bid farewell to the Cape Town-based side at the end of the season, potentially cutting short his contract, which originally was extended until the culmination of the 2024-2025 campaign.
Speculation surrounding Dayimani’s departure intensified as insiders revealed to Afrikaans newspaper Rapport that there’s a perception within the coaching ranks that his playing style doesn’t harmonize well with teammate Evan Roos on the field.
This alleged lack of synergy has limited their joint appearances in the backrow this season. This prompted the Stormers to consider parting ways with Dayimani, allowing him to explore the lucrative opportunity in France, where he could significantly bolster his earnings.
While the Stormers express admiration for Dayimani’s talent and acknowledge his contributions over the past three seasons, the prospect of him maximizing his income overseas seems increasingly likely, especially considering his exclusion from recent Springboks alignment camps.
As he’s not part of Rassie Erasmus’ national squad plans, Dayimani doesn’t benefit from salary contributions by SA Rugby, which are reserved for players deemed crucial to the national setup.
