Kaizer Chiefs have signed goalkeeper Fiacre Ntwari from TS Galaxy in what was a surprise move by the Soweto giants.
This comes after Chippa United’s Stanley Nwabali was for a long time mentioned as an Amakhosi transfer target.
Seasoned goalkeeper trainer Alex Heredia explains why Chiefs should have targeted Nwabali instead of Ntwari.
“It’s not easy to play on a big, big stage like Kaizer Chiefs, where even during the training sessions you’re under pressure,” Heredia told KickOff.
“They must not judge him in his first game, they must give him four-five games to see how he reacts. At the moment, he is a good goalkeeper, adding quality to the side.
“For a goalkeeper to perform, he needs a good team. It’s the same with the team. But the Nigerian Nwabali, looks more solid compared to the Rwandan because we’ve seen most of his games,” added the former Bafana Bafana goalkeeper coach.
“I watched him both here in the PSL and at the Afcon, and he’s done quite well. In my opinion, the Nigerian would have been a more positive option for Chiefs.”
After the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations tournament, Nwabali became hot property following his impressive performances as he contributed to Nigeria reaching the final.
That saw him being linked with clubs from Europe and the Middle East but until now, he is still a Chippa United player.
For someone who impressed while playing for a continental powerhouse like Nigeria, his profile seemed way more appealing than Ntwari who at 24, is four years younger than the Super Eagles custodian.
