A former Kaizer Chiefs striker has detailed the potential consequences of recruiting players late, warning that it could result in another disappointing season for Amakhosi.

The Soweto giants are currently in Turkey for a pre-season camp and have yet to officially confirm a new signing. However, they’re understood to have secured the services of left-back Bongani Sam and goalkeeper Fiacre Ntwari.

Sam journeyed with the team to Turkey, and as Ntwari has yet to join them, he is currently the sole newcomer in the camp.

Former Chiefs forward Edward Manqele says the club should have signed the players already. He feels a winning team can be built during the pre-season.

“The pre-season is the foundation of the season to come and if you don’t have the players you need in camp with you mainly with a new coach and technical team then that’s where the problem starts,” Manqele told Soccer Laduma.

“You see they are looking at players and they are not signing them but come the start of the season they will be looking at beefing up the squad and that will be too late and once again it will affect the team performance.

“You need to sign in the off season and have all your players in the pre-season camp and training. That’s how you build a good team for the season.”

With the responsibility of signing players having been given the new technical team led by Nasreddine Nabi, he insisted the signings should have been made by scouts.

He believes it could be another bad season for the Glamour Boys
