Kaizer Chiefs have been dealt a double injury blow as two of their defenders leave the camp for South Africa.

Chiefs had just announced that versatile defender Edmilson Dove would leave Turkey due to an injury suffered at training.

“Kaizer Chiefs’ defender Edmilson Dove has joined the Club’s injury list after he suffered an injury during Friday’s session at Amakhosi’s pre-season training camp in Türkiye. The Mozambican international has been examined by the medical team in camp. He will leave Türkiye and head back to South Africa for a full assessment and medical attention. We wish him, and the rest of the injured fellows a speedy recovery and look forward to seeing them back on the training grounds and field of play soon.” Wrote the club’s website.

Now as if that was not bad enough, there is a picture circling around that shows that Dove had company. At the airport, the Mozambican international was joined by fellow left-sided defender and new signing Bongani Sam! The Gqeberha-born star has just joined Chiefs from their arch rivals Orlando Pirates. He has not, however, played for the Buccaneers since 2022, as he was on loan to Moroka Swallows . He spent the past two seasons at the Soweto giant, with the last spell lasting just six months.

Because of his lack of football last season, it was a huge shock that Chiefs were even willing to sign Sam. It was even more shocking that Pirates were willing to let him go to their biggest rivals. Nevertheless, a deal was silently struck and the player joined the Glamour Boys, albeit without an official announcement thus far.

Sam would’ve been hoping to cement his place as the Chiefs first choice left-back after Sifiso Hlanti’s exit. But now, if the latest picture is anything to go by, he will not be able to make an impression. This on the new coaching staff led by Nasreddine Nabi or the club’s fans.

Chiefs fans, how do you feel about Sam already being injured before being announced? Leave your feelings and thoughts in the comments below.
