Mamelodi Sundowns have exercised an option on ‘s contract.
The 34-year-old star has been with Sundowns for more than a decade now and he won several trophies over the years.
Zwane’s future was in limbo after his contract expired at the end of the last season and there were silly rumours linking him with Orlando Pirates.
However, Zwane’s agent, Jazzman Mahlakgane has disclosed the decision taken by the club about his client’s future with the club.
“Well, I’m actually surprised that Sundowns haven’t made a formal announcement because they’ve taken an option. So, Themba has two options and they have taken one option for the season we are going into. So, he’s still secured at Sundowns,” Mahlakgane said, as quoted by FARPost.
“You know the quality of Themba, you shouldn’t confuse it with his age or anything because it might get mixed up with that. Look at the quality of Themba, not how old he is.
“The level at which Themba plays, for me, without being biased because he’s my player, he could give this country and his clubs another two to three years, it’s that simple,” explained the representative.
“And I think this is a conversation that’s no longer a secret that I communicated with Sundowns, to say someone like him at this level, looking after himself so well, he’s not a night sleeper.
“For me, he should be rewarded as long as he can play. I was encouraged when I watched the Euro that between [Cristiano] Ronaldo and Pepe, one is 39 and one is 41,” he added.
“These guys can play like a 25-year-old, so, I think the two players at that level, they’ve given us an opportunity to start looking at the players’ qualities not how old they are and Themba is one player who must lead that conversation.”
