Kaizer Chiefs left for Turkey last week where they set a base camp to train ahead of the 2024/25 season.

It is their first time overseas since 2003 when they went to South Korea for pre-season training.

Katsande feels going to Turjey will give them adequate preparations as they seek to end a nine-year trophy drought.

“It’s a good decision for the club to take the boys overseas because they need a bit of fresh air. They won’t wake up and go around South Africa and hear the same stories,” Katsande said as per Phakaaathi.

“So when they are that side, they will sharpen their swords by staying together and building team cohesion and team spirit.

“They will see the game differently when they come back. I think you are going to see a different Kaizer Chiefs this season with the same players that were there last season but the mentality is going to change,” the former midfield hardman continued.

“That is because of the environment they find themselves in at the moment. They will be thinking about how they can better their performance and be better for the club and hit the ground running.

“We are heading in the right direction but you know that this is a project and it requires patience,” the ex-Zimbabwe captain added.

“With a new technical team, we just need some new editions in the team but we need to be patient from our side as supporters because this is football and it’s not an overnight thing.”

The trip to Turkey heightens expectations on Chiefs to finally break Mamelodi Sundowns’ dominance of domestic football.

Also making fans hopeful is the arrival of new coach Nasreddine Nabi and his own technical team which could usher in a new era at Naturena.

However, some might not buy into what is happening at Chiefs given how Orlando Pirates went to Spain last year but struggled to match Sundowns in the PSL title race.

As Chiefs continue training in Turkey, their fans are curious to know which players they will sign ahead of the new season.

The club is also yet to announce the teams they will play against in friendly matches while they are overseas.
